LANCASTER ELK’S LODGE #134 HOSTS BENEFIT for SCHREIBER PEDIATRIC“
Italian Day” Event Raises Vital Funds for Kids
March 12, 2014
The Elk’s Lodge at 219 N Duke St in Lancaster PA held their Third Annual “Italian Day” event on January 26, 2014 to raise funds to benefit Schreiber Pediatric Rehabilitation Center of Lancaster County, PA.
Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center offers premier outpatient physical, occupational and speech-language therapy to children with disabilities, developmental delays and acquired injuries. Their goal-oriented approach maximizes each child's ability to function as independently as possible within the community.
An authentic Italian meal was prepared by guest chef J. Scott Martino, Executive chef and CEO of Cortazzo Foods, and served by volunteer members of the Lodge as well as staff who volunteered for the day. On the menu were house made baked ziti and fettuccini Alfredo with freshly made sauces, hand made salads, freshly baked breads and a variety of tasty home made desserts.
Donations were generously provided by local businesses and Elk’s members which were used to conduct a Chinese Auction, given as door prizes and raffled. Food for the event was donated by Weis Markets, Cortazzo Foods, Kegel’s Produce, Mandros, the Elk’s Lodge and individual members to mention a few.
Chef Martino was quoted saying, “This event means so much to me personally. One of my best friend’s child is an ongoing patient of Scheiber Pediatric. Schreiber has helped this child, my honorary nephew, and his family more than I can tell you.”
The Elks raised over $6000 in their effort and a portion of those proceeds were donated to Schreiber Pediatric in a dedication ceremony that was held on March 12, 2014. Eddie Huertas, Exalted Ruler, made the presentation.
Anne Witkonis, coordinator of the event, said, “I am so proud of our members and their continued dedication to serve our community, help children and honor our veterans. Our goal for next year’s Italian Day Event is to get the general public involved and to raise even more money for this worthy cause. We plan on getting the word out to the public months ahead of time inviting all who would like to enjoy a great day of fun, great food and lots of laughter.”
